The Botswana Institution of Engineers
Is a professional institution consisting of engineers from all engineering disciplines. It was formed in 1983 by a group of engineers concerned about the development, practice and status of engineering in the country, particularly with regard to the importance of its contribution in national development.
It was previously known as the Botswana Engineers Society but was changed in 1995 to Botswana Institution of Engineers, following a major review of its constitution.

Main Objectives
  To promote the advancement of and to facilitate the acquisition of engineering knowledge.
  To cultivate closer co-operation with engineering institutions of other countries for information exchange and professional advancement.
  To bring to light the activities of the engineering profession and to generate adequate public interest in engineering as a profession.
  To promote the general interests of the profession and to maintain acceptable engineering standards.

Memberships
BIE has a wide range of membership categories; for the highly qualified professional, to those who qualify by experience, graduates and students. At present the following categories of membership exist.
