Memberships
BIE has a
wide range of membership categories; for
the highly qualified professional, to
those who qualify by experience,
graduates and students. At present the
following categories of membership
exist:-
Fellows
Every candidate for election or transfer
to the class of Fellow shall be a person
who at the time of application has been
engaged in and made distinguished
contribution to the science and practice
of engineering and who in the opinion of
the Council, has by personal attainments
acquired an outstanding reputation as an
engineer and whose admission as a Fellow
will be in the interest of the
Institution.
Members
Every candidate for election or transfer
to the class of Member shall be a person
who at the time of application is
engaged in a position of responsibility
in the science and practice of
engineering and who in the science and
practice of engineering and who in the
opinion of the Council, has by personal
attainments acquired an established
reputation as an engineer and whose
admission as a Member will be in the
interest of the Institution.
Honorary Fellows
Every candidate for election to the
class of Honorary Fellow shall be a
person who satisfies the Council that
he/she has rendered important service to
engineering science or practice that
admission of the candidate as a Honorary
Fellow would, in the opinion of the
council be in the interest of the
Institution.
Companions
Every candidate for election to the
class of Companion shall be an
established member of another profession
who is associated with the methods,
procedures or practices of engineering
activities, and whose admission would be
conducive to the general advancement of
engineering and its applications.
Graduates
Every candidate for election to the
class of Graduate shall be a person who
holds a degree from a university,
college or school of engineering
approved by the Council.
Affiliates
Every candidate for election or transfer
to the class of Affiliate shall be a
person who is an affiliate or be of such
other class of membership as the Council
may from time determine of a recognized
Engineering Institution approved for the
purpose by the Council on a reciprocal
basis.
Technicians
Every candidate for election to the
class of Technician shall be a person
who holds a diploma of a school of
engineering or accredited equivalents
approved for this purpose by the
Council.
Students
Every candidate for election to the
class of Student shall be registered in
a school of engineering or shall satisfy
the Council that the candidate is being
educated and/or receiving training in
engineering sciences.
These grades of membership may be
extended to individuals or group of
persons, companies or institutions.
Applicants for any category of
membership may be required to provide
proof of either academic qualifications
or professional experience. |
